Meeting your surgeon

Dr Gerarchi will carefully evaluate your specific goals and concerns in the initial consultation in order to gain a comprehensive understanding of your expectations. Since this procedure typically involves general anaesthesia and more extensive incisions, your current health status will also be an important consideration in moving forward with the procedure. A 3D CT scan and scan of your sinuses will be required prior to the surgery. This is the best time to ask questions, as it is key to gaining confidence in your decision to undergo surgery and be satisfied with the results.

Your forehead reshaping journey

General anesthesia is the most likely form of sedative used for this procedure. Incisions will be placed within or at your hairline and may extend from ear to ear. This allows for access to the bone so that appropriate corrections can be made. After the reshaping process is complete, the skin is smoothed back over the forehead and sutured back together. Depending on the extent of the correction you require, the forehead reshaping procedure could take several hours complete.

Your recovery

Forehead reshaping may make an overnight stay in hospital necessary, particularly if other procedures are performed at the same time. Bruising and swelling are standard after this procedure and can persist for a number of days. It should be noted that this swelling may not fully resolve for a few weeks; it is also typical to have forehead numbness for up to three months after surgery, but this will also generally resolve on its own. If dissolvable sutures are not used in the incision, they will generally be removed by Dr Gerarchi within a week.

You post-procedure journey

Before you return home, dressings will be applied to the affected area protect the incisions and minimise swelling. Care instructions will be specific, and provided to you following the surgery by Dr Gerarchi. They include instructions for hair-washing and incision care to encourage effective healing and minimise visible scarring after the procedure.

Managing your pain and recovery

In order to ensure an effective recovery and your personal comfort, oral pain medication will be prescribed by Dr Gerarchi for the days following surgery. Antibiotics will also be prescribed to prevent infection. Be sure to consult with Dr Gerarchi prior to taking any medication before or after surgery to prevent complications and facilitate faster healing.
