Create balance in your features

Beauty in balance and harmony is an inherent trait found throughout in nature – in animals, plants and in humans. A lack of these two traits in your face may bring you intense dissatisfaction every time you look in the mirror and instill in you a desire to consider a change. Your chin is a part of your facial structure that can have a significant impact on your overall appearance. Perhaps you are seeking to reverse the aging process and bring definition and smoothness to your facial profile or perhaps your recessed chin is making the rest of your features appear uneven. Or, as frequently happens, a small chin can contribute to your nose appearing larger.

Chin implants are a surgery offered by Dr Paul Gerarchi which can offer subtle, natural results and can have a profound effect on your overall facial harmony. Improving your facial profile, reversing skin sagging, balancing your face and adding volume, chin implants are an option at any age and offer benefits to younger and older patients alike.

Your chin implants journey

To achieve the most complimentary and beautiful results, there are a number of different possible methods to insert your chin implants. Your consultation is crucial in determining how your procedure will take place and the resulting aesthetic appearance and facial proportions.

On surgery day, you will be cared for by a knowledgeable surgeon and team, to ease any anxieties you may have.

Using a general or local anaesthetic depending on the nature of the surgery and your personal preference, a small incision will be made inside the mouth (where the lower lip meets the gum line) or beneath the chin. Implants will be placed and adjusted for optimal contour and facial balance, and the incisions will be carefully sealed. Although the procedure generally will not require an overnight stay, it is recommended that you have a friend or family member assist in transport and in facilitating a comfortable recovery on the first night.

Your recovery

With chin implants being a relatively simple procedure, you can recover in the comfort of your own home, among your loved ones.

The affected area will be tightly dressed, to give your body the best chance at fighting infection, to eliminate irritation and to allow the implant to heal in its correct place.

As the chin is directly associated with fundamental bodily functions, like eating and breathing, it is vital that you take extra care and refrain from solid food for several days post-surgery and strenuous physical activity for up to six weeks. A natural part of the process will be some tenderness, bruising and swelling and you are advised to consider that these aspects when evaluating your initial results. Your successful path to a complete and beautiful recovery depends on a healthy, comfortable and safe recovery.

Managing your pain and recovery

To enable the most comfortable and stress-free recover, you will be prescribed pain relief medication. It is vital to discuss potential pain relief medications prior to purchase, as some NSAIDS (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) can cause blood thinning and excessive bleeding.

During the delicate healing process, antibiotics may be prescribed to help to prevent infection. You might also take antibiotics after your procedure to help prevent infection while your chin area is healing.

Your post-surgical journey

Prior to your surgery, Dr Gerarchi will provide you with specific instructions for post-procedural care that will help you have a healthy recovery and the best possible results. He will be available as you heal to answer any questions or address any concerns you have with results or complications.

Follow-up appointments will be scheduled in advance to monitor the progress of your recovery and check that all is going according to plan. As always, we encourage healthy communication and insist that you contact us if anything occurs that isn’t expected. Realistic expectations will be created by Dr Gerarchi upon your initial consultation and throughout the entire process in order for you to understand what to expect during recovery.
