The results you deserve
It may be possible to address the following issues through surgery:
- Removal of benign and malignant tumours from anywhere in the head and neck region
- Facial trauma caused by car accidents, sports or other circumstances
- Thyroid and parathyroid disorders requiring surgical correction
- Reconstructive surgery after head or neck cancer treatment
- Rhinoplasty for function as well as cosmetic purposes
- Correction of neck and facial deformities due to birth defects, injury or disease
As an otolaryngologist and facial plastic surgeon, Dr Gerarchi’s expertise and holistic approach may save you the need for additional reconstructive procedures in the future.
Meeting your surgeon
At your initial consultation, Dr Gerarchi will take your full medical history, current circumstances and goals for your surgery into consideration before making a recommendation on the best course of action for your unique circumstances. Dr Gerarchi is passionate about providing his patients with the information they need to feel comfortable and confident about their planned procedures. You are encouraged to ask any questions, or raise any concerns you may have at this time.
Your head and neck surgery journey
Depending on your unique circumstances and goals, you may undergo either local anaesthesia, local anaesthesia with sedation, or general anaesthesia for your head and neck surgery. This is dependent on the type of surgery you elect to have, and Dr Gerarchi’s unique approach to your case. The time required to complete your surgery is also dependent on these factors. In order to minimise visible scarring, Dr Gerarchi takes extreme care to strategically place any incisions in inconspicuous areas.
Your recovery from head and neck surgery will also vary depending on the exact circumstances of your procedure, but you will likely experience a degree of swelling, bruising and discomfort for the first few days. Sutures may be dissolvable, or may need to be removed within a week following surgery. Recovery times vary, with some procedures allowing you to get back in action in just a few days, while more complex surgeries may require a week or two of recovery time to ensure complete healing before you return to regular activities.
Your post-surgery journey
To encourage a safe and comfortable recovery, Dr Gerarchi will provide you with a specific set of post-operative instructions to follow closely. There will be a specific focus on incision care to minimise your risk of infection or visible scarring after your procedure. Surgeries performed inside the mouth may also require regular rinses to keep the surgical area clean during the healing process. To ensure your recovery is proceeding according to expectations, you will be scheduled for follow-up appointments with Dr Gerarchi.
Managing your pain and recovery
In order to ensure your comfort in the early days of the recovery, an oral pain medication will be prescribed by Dr Gerarchi.
An antibiotic may also accompany this in order to minimise the risk of infection.
